It had always been a dream of Adi Werner’s youth to own a ski hut. So, Adi Werner and his wife Gerda viewed many different types of ski huts in Austria, Switzerland, South Tyrol and in Germany. Then the architect and host was given the task of managing the Hospiz Alm “project”.
The idea was to have a central point around which the huts would be lined up. The premises were not meant to be large, but suitable for his various huts.
And so, in 1988, the Hospiz Alm came into being. A central point with 7 huts with concealable walls so that large events, such as weddings or birthdays could also be celebrated at their best. A fireplace with a crackling fire, the inviting bar managed by Karl-Heinz Pahle, who is well-known even far beyond the borders. It’s a well-kept secret – he owns the largest cigar collection in Arlberg. The sparkling clean show kitchen, where our cooks divulge their secrets. The gallery is more than 2 stories high and is the home of culinary delights of the highest order. It also has its own wine list and menu. The balcony affords a wonderful view of the surrounding mountain world in good weather. Great fun for big and small - the fun slide into the cellar! And of course our team of many years, under the management of Werner Künstner.
And don’t forget the large-bottle wine cellar... the largest in the world! The major Chateaux of 1981 filled these large bottles for the first time for this cellar after the war. During the war this was not allowed.
2700 of the most well-loved large bottle wines mature in the cellar of the Hospiz Alm and are stored at 14 - 16°C, free of vibrations. Each guest may, of course, view the large bottle wine cellar on request.
Mr Werner gave a visiting group of students a "task" during the ski world championships in 2001: What is so special about our Hospiz Alm?
The result came one week later: every table is situated in a corner, meaning no stress and all tables are "rest areas"; the spacious free area, the fireplace with its crackling fire, the inviting bar, the show kitchen, the exclusive “Kulinarium” – for the culinary connoisseur - and, of course, the large bottle wine cellar.
With its unique position directly on the ski slope, Hospiz Alm became world famous and is probably the most homely and most beautiful Alm restaurant in the Alps.
In the coming year, we will be celebrating our 20 year anniversary with the unbelievable success story that is Hospiz Alm.
