History
The "Goldenen Berg" could still only be reached in summer by a path meant for carts. It was now necessary to have a road in order to carry out the new building project. After many difficult negotiations with the farmers and landlords, the road was constructed, creating the basis for a further boom in 1979. The road was paved for the construction of the new hotel "Goldener Berg". The new "Goldener Berg" was constructed within 7 months and opened, as planned, on 5th December 1980. The hotel now had a total of 76 beds. From then on things moved quickly. The older parts of the building were renovated and all rooms were equipped with a bath and WC,and rooms were connected to create apartments with a living area.
The kitchen was enlarged and renovated, and space was made for accommodation of the staff, until in1992 it was decided to demolish the old building in order to construct a new one. The new hotel presented an attractive panoramic restaurant, a club room for hotel guests, apartments for staff, 14 large single rooms, all fitted with a large bed, 5 spacious apartments and 3 family apartments consisting of 2 separate bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a living area of 65 sqm. Today, the "Goldener Berg" has 72 beds. In 1997, the "Alter Goldener Berg" was pulled down completely, with the exception of the wonderful, original farmhouse living room on the ground floor and the room above it. It was rebuilt as the image of its heritage. The stalls were made into comfortable living rooms for the guests, with a kitchen, and pleasant flats for the staff on the 1st and 2nd floors. All offices and other rooms for internal use were moved to the cellar with an underground connection to the hotel.
The storage for many products, laundry, technical installations, wine cellar and garage were now set out and 'hidden' underground over an area of 3.500 sqm. This new building was constructed within 7 months too, and opened on time with a big house-warming party. Since 1988 the "Goldener Berg" has also offered visitors a summer season. From the end of June until the end of September, the "Alter Goldener Berg" is not just popular with hikers, bikers, and golfers, it also welcomes connoisseurs who are just looking for a peaceful place to stay. Obviously, according to tradition, the next plans are lying in drawers waiting to be fulfilled.
The construction of an underground connection to the tunnel system in Oberlech has been planned. The rooms which were newly built back in 1980 will be renewed and a "wellness" or spa centre will be established. In summer 2000 we handed the management of the estate to our 2nd daughter Daniela who has been supporting and supervising the hotel since 1992. Daniela has established a management company with her fiancé Florian Werner, the junior boss of the Hospiz hotel in St.-Christoph. Together they now have 7 businesses including the "Goldenen Berg" under their management. It is Daniela who has now taken the reins in her hands to control the destiny of the "Goldener Berg".
