The Werner family, who own the hotel, also rund the nearby Hospiz Alm. Here the waiters were wearing calf-lenght trousers and natty berets, a huge fire gave the whole place a ruddy glow...

Brotherhood

Founded 614 years ago by Henry - the foundling from Kempten, the Brotherhood of St. Christoph first maintained the hostels of the Arlberg Hospiz. The Hospiz was set up to save helpless travellers who got lost in the snow and to rebuild their strength with soup and wine. In summer Henry and his followers wandered throughout Europe to collect donations for the hostel on the Arlberg. Under Josef I, Emperor of Austria, all associations were "secularized". Thus the Brotherhood of St. Christoph went into hibernation for 200 years.

Only after the Brotherhood's chapel was destroyed by a raging fire in 1957 was the Brotherhood resurrected. Today, the Brotherhood has 12,500 members throughout the world, including such celebrities as the royal families of the Netherlands, Spain and Norway, Caroline of Monaco, the dukes' families of Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, and many prominent Austrians such as Franz Klammer, Patrick Ortlieb, Karl Schranz, Richard Lugner and his family, and many others.

The Brotherhood collects over € 700.000 annually. These funds go to needy families and children in Austria and help to alleviate poverty in many areas!

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"
Psalm 133
